In Delhi (India), the Odd-Even rule to curb pollution received a strictly mixed response. But Singapore government is all set to make a historic breakthrough to control the traffic on roads.

The government of Singapore has decided that no person will be allowed to buy a new car from coming February. The current allowed car growth on Singapore roads is 0.25% per year and now the government plans to take it down to 0%.

As per Singapore’s Land Transport Authority, the decision was driven due to traffic congestion and a shortage of space. The densely populated territory has a land area less than half the size of the city of Houston, but more than twice as many people.

What are the plans for transport in future?

From the second month of the new year, Singapore government plans to make people travel through public transport. It is planning to spend 28 billion Singapore dollars on building and upgrading rail and bus networks over the next five years.

Is the decision of halt of cars permanent?

The decision is not permanent. A per government, the results will be reviewed in 2020.
