Chittorgarh Women Threaten To Set Themselves On Fire If Padmaavat Release Is Not Stopped

Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh starrer Padmavati got postponed, title was changed to Padmaavat, Censor Board asked the makers to do some changes and add a disclaimer saying that film doesn’t claim historical accuracy. However, nothing has satisfied the Karni Sena and Rajput community who continues to be against its release.

After all the threats and protests against the film, the women in Chittorgarh have now threatened that if the film release is not stopped then they will perform “Jauhar” which means self-immolation.

A Sarvasamaj meeting was held in Chittaurgarh recently where the members planned a phase-wise protest against the release of Padmavati now called Padmaavat. There were about 500 attendees of the meeting and out of all those 100 females belonged to high-profile families of the city.

Speaking to IANS, spokesperson of Rajput Karni Sena Virendra Singh said on January 17, national highways and railway tracks across Chittorgarh would be blocked.

The Sena representatives are also planning to meet Rajnath Singh and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the meeting they will request to stop the release of film.

Talking about the release consequences, a representative, Virendra Singh said –

“But, if despite all these measures the film is released, the women of Kshatriya Samaj will perform jauhar on January 24 — the day when the queen performed jauhar — and at the same site.”

Chittaurgarh Jauhar Smriti Sansthan general secretary Bhanwar Singh also confirmed that preparations were also being made to close the gates of the historical Chittorgarh fort once again.

Virendra Singh said that Earlier, the Sena had planned a protest on January 25 and 26, but in the wake of Republic Day celebrations, the protest was rescheduled to January 17.
