Virat Kohli is always in limelight for some or the other reason. After his marriage, his abusive language in test match and after his wonderful 21st Test Century, he’s in news for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct.
On the 3rd day of the 2nd test match against South Africa, Kohli got into a heated argument with umpire Michael Gough over a ball.
Since he breached level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct, he was fined 25 percent of the match fees. He was frustrated because he felt the cricket ball was getting affected due to damp outfield.
However, the umpire didn’t approve his plea, following which, he hurled it angrily to the ground.
An ICC statement read, “Kohli received one demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the code of conduct during third day’s play of second South Africa Test.”
The statement further read,
“India captain Virat Kohli has been fined 25 per cent of his match fee and received one demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the third day’s play in the second Test against South Africa at Centurion on Monday. Kohli was found to have breached Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game.”
This incident was seen in the 25th over yesterday; he threw it aggressively, which is why umpires Paul Reiffel and Michael Gough, Allahudient Palekar and Richard Kettleborough charged him with misconduct.
These level breaches have a penalty of maximum 50 percent of match fees and 1 or 2 demerit points. Hope Kohli doesn’t repeat this in future.
