There is no denying the fact that UP police is aggressively going after the criminals as we all know that from the very beginning of his tenure, the UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath has made it clear that he will not tolerate any compromise in the matter of law and order of the state.
The UP police has been carrying out encounters in different districts of the state for arresting the wanted criminals and in the process when they are fired upon, they also reply in the same manner and some criminals get shot.
The human rights organisation is responsible for checking that no innocent person get killed or injured during these police operations and along with NHRC, there are many NGOs that also work for human rights.
One such organisation is Amnesty India and it recently invited criticism and wrath of Indian citizens when it made a wrong tweet about the encounters done by the UP police. The first tweet of Amnesty International read,
“Over 900 people have been killed in police encounters in Uttar Pradesh between March 2017 and January 2018. NHRC says UP police are ‘misusing their power in the light of an undeclared endorsement given by the higher ups.’”
900 is quite a big number by any contrast and soon it came into notice of the social media cell of UP police. It gave a kickass reply which made Amnesty not only correct their tweet but also delete the previous tweet. UP police tweeted,
“Dear @AIIndia we beg ur pardon but there’s a major human error in ur numbers, unless U have redefined D injured & dead as alike! With due respect to the 37 dead V request you to respect the ones alive & Not declare them dead! We’ll make sure our legal notice is better researched”

After this bang on reply from UP police, Amnesty India corrected the tweet in which they stated that 900 people have been killed or injured in UP.
It wrote, “Correction: This tweet incorrectly stated that over 900 people had been killed in police encounters in Uttar Pradesh between March 2017 and Jan 2018. The figure actually referred to both deaths and injuries.”
