“Prithvi Shaw Needed A Jolt”, DC Co-Owner Opens Up On Shaw Going Unsold In IPL 2025 Auction

The young Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw, once hailed as a cricket prodigy, has hit a significant low in his career. Prithvi Shaw made a stunning international debut in 2018, scoring a century against West Indies in Rajkot. His performance led to comparisons with legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara and Virender Sehwag, as highlighted by the then-coach Ravi Shastri. However, off-field controversies and inconsistent performances have seen Prithvi Shaw’s career falter in recent years.

Delhi Capitals acquired Prithvi Shaw in 2018 and retained him ahead of the 2022 mega auction for INR 7.5 crore. Despite his initial promise, the cricketer struggled with form, leading to his omission from the playing XI and subsequent release last month. At the 2024 IPL auction, he entered with a base price of INR 75 lakh but went unsold. He was not reconsidered during the accelerated round of bidding, hitting a new low in his career trajectory.

Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal addressed Prithvi Shaw’s situation, emphasising the need for introspection. Jindal said in an interview that Prithvi is a great kid but there are times when a person needs a jolt to reassess and improve himself. Parth Jindal further added that he grew up in an environment in which expectations were quite high from him and he was compared to the legends such as Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara but this setback might make him understand that he needs to work harder and he may find his love for cricket once again. Parth Jindal urged him to focus on fitness and discipline, expressing hope for a revival.

The snub at the IPL auction highlights the urgent need for Prithvi Shaw to regroup and address the factors affecting his career. With a renewed focus on fitness and discipline, he has the opportunity to rebuild his reputation and return stronger to the cricketing stage and the good thing is that age is still on his side.

Hopefully, Prithvi Shaw will take it as an opportunity to rediscover himself and come back strongly.
