The Indian cricketer KL Rahul’s IPL 2025 season has been defined by more than just numbers, though his performance speaks volumes, he has already notched up 371 runs in nine innings at an impressive strike rate of 146.06, including three fifties. However, what has truly captivated fans is not just the runs but the way he is playing the game and celebrating it.
Earlier in the tournament, Rahul delivered a match-winning knock of 93 not out against his former team Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. But it was his celebration that lit up the Internet. Channeling the energy of the film Kantara, he marked the moment with a powerful gesture in the center of the pitch (this is my ground), one that instantly went viral across social platforms. That performance and celebration didn’t just electrify the stadium — it prompted a phone call from none other than his father-in-law and actor Suniel Shetty.
Suniel Shetty later shared his reaction in an interview, describing how he felt goosebumps watching the moment unfold live. It was one of those rare instances where he felt compelled to immediately pick up the phone and call Rahul to say how much he appreciated the display — not just of skill but of belief. According to him, that was the version of Rahul he has always wanted to see: one who fully owns the moment and backs himself to deliver. Reflecting on Rahul’s performances after major tournaments like the World Cup and the Champions Trophy, Suniel Shetty noted that this version of the cricketer now carries both confidence and the ability to finish games with authority.
Adding a light-hearted touch, Suniel Shetty joked about Rahul’s transformation by suggesting he’s now training more like an actor than a cricketer — joining action directors for fight practice and even rehearsing dialogue delivery. Beneath the humour, however, was a meaningful observation about the modern-day cricketers’ reality. Suniel Shetty spoke of the constant pressure from social media and how it can often blur the lines between self-expression and performance.
According to him, Rahul has now reached a place where he truly wants to enjoy the game. The burden of expectations, particularly those magnified online, can weigh heavily, but Rahul seems to have found a balance. He understands that being free to express himself, whether it’s through a bold celebration or an aggressive knock, is as important as playing a technically sound innings.
This season, more than just Rahul’s numbers, it is his mindset and visibility as a leader of self-assurance that have stood out. The runs may win matches but it’s his fearless celebration of the moment that has redefined how fans and family see him now.
