The television series Anupamaa has captivated audiences across India, becoming a ratings powerhouse and solidifying Rupali Ganguly’s place as a household name. However, few are aware that the role almost went to someone else before it found its perfect match.
Actor Rukhsar Rehman, recognised for her roles in films like PK and URI: The Surgical Strike, recently opened up about how she was initially offered the titular role in Anupamaa. She shared in an interview that she received a call from producer Rajan Shahi’s office but had to decline the opportunity due to prior commitments in the OTT space and personal matters that required her attention. At that time, she felt she might be able to consider it a few days later but the timing didn’t align.
Looking back, Rukhsar acknowledged the unpredictable nature of the industry and suggested that perhaps fate had other plans for her. She expressed no regrets, noting that sometimes destiny has a different path in store, possibly something even better.
Eventually, the role went to Rupali Ganguly whose portrayal has since become iconic and deeply resonant with viewers. Meanwhile, Rukhsar continues to explore meaningful projects. She is gearing up for her next release, Uttar Da Puttar, a socially driven drama directed by Ravinder Siwach, featuring Annu Kapoor in a prominent role.
Additionally, she will make a special appearance in the upcoming film Thanks Maa, further expanding her diverse body of work.
