Star Indian cricketer Rinku Singh recently got engaged to Priya Saroj, the newly elected Member of Parliament from Uttar Pradesh’s Machhlishahr, in a private ceremony held at a luxury hotel in Lucknow.
The event, which took place on Saturday, was attended by several well-known personalities from both the political and entertainment worlds. Among those present were Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla and veteran actress and politician Jaya Bachchan.
Photos and videos from the ceremony have surfaced on social media, quickly gaining attention and being widely shared by fans and well-wishers. The couple’s wedding is scheduled to take place on 18 November at the Taj Hotel in Varanasi.
Priya Saroj, who is 26 years old, is not only a politician but also a qualified lawyer. She represents the Machhlishahr constituency as a first-time Member of Parliament from the Samajwadi Party, led by Akhilesh Yadav. She is the daughter of Tufani Saroj, a three-time MP and currently an MLA from Kerakat.
Born on November 23, 1998, in Varanasi, Priya completed her early education at the Air Force Golden Jubilee Institute in New Delhi. She went on to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree at Delhi University and then earned her law degree from Amity University in Noida. After completing her studies, she practiced law at the Supreme Court of India.
Though she initially aspired to become a judge, Priya eventually turned to politics, influenced by her family background. In the 2024 general elections, she contested from Machhlishahr, a seat previously held by her father and won by a margin of 35,850 votes against BJP candidate BP Saroj. Her campaign primarily focused on youth employment and women’s empowerment, gaining her significant support among young and female voters.
As their wedding plans are now underway, the engagement of Rinku Singh and Priya Saroj marks the coming together of two high-profile figures from very different arenas — cricket and politics, setting the stage for a grand celebration later this year.
