Bollywood’s leading lady Deepika Padukone has always been known for her thoughtful career choices. Beyond her stunning performances, she has built a reputation for making decisions that align with her values, a lesson she learned early in her career. It’s this philosophy that has guided her through her latest professional shifts and led her to a new and exciting project. Her journey reminds us that in any industry, prioritising your well-being and a positive work environment can be more rewarding than chasing success alone.
Deepika Padukone is stepping into a new chapter, confirming her exit from the much-anticipated Kalki 2898 AD sequel and simultaneously announcing her reunion with superstar Shah Rukh Khan for their new movie, King. Taking to social media, she shared a heartfelt message about her decision, posting a picture of her and SRK’s hands clasped together.
In her post, she reflected on a valuable lesson he taught her nearly 18 years ago while filming their first movie, Om Shanti Om — the experience of making a film and the people you work with are more important than the movie’s success. She explained that this philosophy has guided her career ever since and it’s likely the reason why they are coming together for their sixth film.
Deepika Padukone captioned the post as, “The very first lesson he taught me almost 18 years ago while filming Om Shanti Om was that the experience of making a movie, and the people you make it with, matter far more than its success. I couldn’t agree more and have applied that learning to every decision I’ve made since. And that’s probably why we’re back making our 6th movie together?”

The post, in which she tagged SRK with the hashtags #King and #Day1, marks a new beginning for one of the most celebrated on-screen duos of Bollywood. Their collaboration in King will be their sixth project since their blockbuster debut in 2007.
The production company Vyjayanthi Movies also made an official announcement on their social media, confirming Deepika’s departure from Kalki 2898 AD sequel. They stated that after careful consideration, they had decided to part ways, explaining that they couldn’t find a partnership that matched the level of commitment a film like Kalki requires. The director Nag Ashwin shared a post on Instagram that many believe was a subtle response to her exit, stating, “You can’t change what happened, but you can choose what happens next,” which quickly went viral.
Industry insiders note that this isn’t the first time Deepika has walked away from a high-profile project. Earlier this year, she reportedly left another major film Spirit due to concerns about long working hours, profit-sharing disagreements and her desire to prioritise her personal life and motherhood.
Her decision to leave Kalki sequel seems consistent with her long-standing approach of choosing projects that feel right for her, both professionally and personally. Fans are ecstatic about her new movie with Shah Rukh Khan, while discussions about her departure from Kalki continue to trend across social media.
