IPL 2026 – 5 Cricketers Who May Be Released By RCB Before IPL 2026 Auctions

Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s long and emotional wait finally ended on June 3, 2025, when they lifted their first ever Indian Premier League trophy. For years, RCB had been the team that came close but fell short, often making headlines for their heartbreaks rather than victories. But in 2025, under the calm leadership of Rajat Patidar, everything changed. The team played with unity, hunger and a renewed sense of belief, defeating Punjab Kings in a nail-biting final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad by just six runs. That night marked not only a title win but a turning point in the franchise’s story.

As they prepare for the 2026 IPL season, expected to begin in mid-March, the champions now face a different kind of challenge, maintaining the same balance and energy that took them to the top. To do that, RCB will have to make a few difficult decisions. Like every season, the management will look to refresh their squad by releasing certain players before the IPL 2026 auction, creating room for new talent and strategic signings.

1. Yash Dayal (India):

Yash Dayal, who has been part of the RCB setup for two years, could also be released. The Uttar Pradesh pacer has taken 28 wickets in 29 matches but found himself in controversy following a complaint of s*xual harassment earlier this year. The franchise might decide to move on for both performance and disciplinary reasons.

2. Rasikh Salam (India):

Another player who might face release is Rasikh Salam from Jammu and Kashmir. Bought for Rs 6 crore, the young pacer showed promise but couldn’t deliver enough impact. After making his debut against Kolkata Knight Riders, he played only one more game in the season before being benched for the rest of the tournament. RCB may choose to part ways and seek a more experienced Indian pace option.

3. Liam Livingstone (England):

Among those who may not feature in the title-defending squad is England’s hard-hitting all-rounder Liam Livingstone. Signed for a hefty Rs 8.75 crore, he was expected to bring explosive power to the middle order but struggled for consistency. Despite a strong 54-run knock against Gujarat Titans, his form dipped and he managed just 112 runs across 10 matches. His bowling too didn’t offer much, with only two wickets to his name.

4. Lungi Ngidi (South Africa):

South African speedster Lungi Ngidi, signed for Rs 1 crore, had a brief but impactful run with four wickets in two matches. However, with limited opportunities and fierce competition among foreign bowlers, Lungi Ngidi might explore other teams to find more consistent game time.

5. Swapnil Singh (India):

Finally, seasoned spinner Swapnil Singh, signed for Rs 50 lakh, didn’t get a single game in RCB’s historic 2025 campaign. At 34, he might be released to allow younger spinners a chance to prove themselves.

RCB’s management faces the delicate task of balancing loyalty with ambition. After years of chasing the elusive trophy, their 2025 victory has set new expectations, not just from fans but from the players themselves. With a solid core built around Rajat Patidar, Virat Kohli and Mohammed Siraj, Bengaluru now looks to the future, aiming not just to defend their title but to establish an era of dominance.
