Indian cricket has enjoyed many unforgettable nights but some achievements carry an extra spark, moments when skill, hard work and history collide. That feeling filled the air in Cuttack when Jasprit Bumrah, one of the most admired fast bowlers of this generation, added another glowing milestone to his remarkable career.

In the first T20I against South Africa on December 9, Jasprit Bumrah needed just one wicket to enter the elite club of bowlers with 100 T20I dismissals. He reached the mark with trademark precision, removing Dewald Brevis in his third over. Just a few deliveries later, he dismissed Keshav Maharaj as well, taking his tally to 101 wickets in 81 T20I matches. The achievement placed him alongside Arshdeep Singh who had become the first Indian to claim 100 T20I wickets earlier this year during India’s Asia Cup clash against Oman.
The post-match celebrations carried both pride and humour. After India’s dominant 101-run win, Arshdeep Singh joined Robin Uthappa, Dale Steyn and presenter Anant Tyagi for a chat. When asked if he planned to make a social media reel with Bumrah now that the senior pacer had joined him in the 100-wicket club, Arshdeep couldn’t resist a playful jab. With a laugh, he replied, “Jassi bhai still needs to take some more wickets to feature on my Instagram. So if he keeps working on that and keeps taking wickets, he might feature on my Instagram as well.”

Beyond the light-hearted exchange, Jasprit Bumrah’s achievement carries enormous significance. The 2024 ICC Cricketer of the Year has now become the first Indian in history to take 100 wickets in all three formats — Tests, ODIs and T20Is. Since making his international debut in Sydney on January 23, 2016, he has dismissed 234 batters in 52 Tests, 149 in 89 ODIs and now 101 in T20Is.

Only four players in world cricket — Lasith Malinga, Tim Southee, Shakib Al Hasan and Shaheen Shah Afridi — had achieved this rare all-format milestone before him. With Tuesday’s performance, Jasprit Bumrah has firmly joined that extraordinary group, strengthening his legacy as one of the greatest fast bowlers Indian cricket has ever produced.
Boom Boom Bumrah!
