Cricket fans love stunning catches but they also know how risky they can be. Fielders often sprint in with their eyes fixed only on the ball, unaware of teammates charging from the other side. When two players collide, the consequences can be serious.

In India’s final group-stage game against the Netherlands, Rinku Singh chose safety over glory. With the match hanging in the balance, he dropped a catch to avoid crashing into his captain Suryakumar Yadav. For him, protecting a teammate mattered more than winning a dead rubber.
That context made South Africa’s effort against India even more dramatic. On the third ball of the fifth over, Marco Jansen deceived Abhishek Sharma with a clever knuckleball. Abhishek, attempting a flick, mistimed it and sent the ball looping into the air.
Corbin Bosch ran in from mid-wicket while Keshav Maharaj sprinted from mid-on. Both had their eyes on the descending ball. Corbin Bosch stretched forward and held on to the catch despite colliding with Keshav Maharaj. It was brave, risky and hugely important.

The dismissal reflected South Africa’s clear strategy. Their bowlers relied heavily on slower deliveries in the first eight overs, forcing India’s batters to generate their own pace, something they struggled to do.

For Abhishek Sharma, the pressure was already building. After three ducks earlier in the tournament, he had retained the team management’s backing. But this innings, which ended at 15, suggested a batter low on confidence. With India suffering a 76-run defeat, questions may again surface for Suryakumar Yadav who had earlier brushed aside calls to bring in Sanju Samson.
What is your take on the matter of bringing in Sanju Samson?
