With the new IPL season around the corner, confidence is running high in the Gujarat Titans camp and especially in their captain Shubman Gill. While many players enter a season looking to prove themselves, Shubman Gill is taking a different approach – he believes his record already speaks for itself.

Over the past few IPL seasons, Shubman Gill has been one of the most consistent performers in the league. Since 2022, he has scored an impressive 2449 runs, maintaining an average of 46.2 and a strike rate close to 150. These numbers place him at the very top, with only Virat Kohli coming close at 2378 runs. Compared to other T20I contenders like Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill’s consistency stands out, even if some of them boast higher strike rates.
Speaking before the season, Shubman Gill made it clear that he doesn’t feel the need to justify his place or performance. Based on his recent track record and contributions to the team, he believes he has already proven his value as a batsman.

However, things haven’t been perfect. Shubman Gill had a chance to cement his place in India’s T20 setup when he replaced Sanju Samson as an opener before the 2025 Asia Cup. Unfortunately, he couldn’t fully capitalise on that opportunity and Sanju Samson reclaimed his spot earlier this year.
While his batting credentials remain strong, Shubman Gill now faces a different kind of challenge and that is leading Gujarat Titans back to glory. The team had a dream start, winning the title in their debut season under Hardik Pandya. But since Shubman Gill took over as the captain, inconsistent performances and auction decisions have kept them from reaching those same heights.

Still, Shubman Gill remains optimistic. He believes that sticking to their strengths and maintaining consistency will eventually bring success. In his view, if the team continues performing the way it has over the past few years, another IPL trophy is only a matter of time.
