Looking back at his life today, Piyush Mishra isn’t afraid to admit where he went wrong. The actor, singer and writer recently spoke about his marriage and the emotional struggles he went through, sharing deeply personal details from his memoir Tumhari Auqaat Kya Hai.
In a candid conversation, Piyush Mishra said that he wasn’t always a responsible partner. He openly admitted that he has only now become a good husband, something he failed to be earlier. According to him, marriage is a huge responsibility, one he didn’t fully understand in his younger years.
He explained that love also changes with time. While it may feel intense and instinctive in youth, it slowly becomes more about companionship and growing old together. But for Piyush Mishra, this understanding came very late. In one of his most honest admissions, he revealed that it took him nearly 10 to 15 years to truly accept his wife’s place in his life. Before that, he said, he saw her only as someone who took care of the house and raised their children, without feeling a deeper emotional connection.
Piyush Mishra described his earlier self as emotionally distant, even calling himself “dry” and “antisocial”. He said things began to change only after he practised Vipassana, which helped him develop empathy and emotional awareness.
Talking about his wife Priya Narayanan, he credited her strength for keeping the marriage intact. She had gone against her parents’ wishes to marry him and had promised never to leave. Piyush Mishra acknowledged that it was her patience and commitment that held everything together, even when he failed to do his part.
He also revealed that he eventually came clean about his mistakes, including his extra-marital relationships. When he confessed everything to Priya, it was an emotional moment, they both cried and hugged each other. According to him, that conversation changed everything and brought a sense of relief.
Piyush Mishra said that they both were dealing with personal struggles at the time and it wasn’t just about his actions. It took them nearly five to six years to finally express everything they had been holding inside. But once they did, it helped rebuild their relationship on a stronger and more honest foundation.
Piyush Mishra married Priya Narayanan in 1995 and they have two sons named Josh and Jai.
