In a recent interview, Saif Ali Khan revealed why he decided to shut down Illuminati Films, the company he launched in 2009. Looking back at his journey as a producer, the actor admitted that the job was not as glamorous as many people imagine. According to Saif Ali Khan, producing films can often feel like a “thankless job”. While he enjoyed the creative freedom that came with it, the pressure and responsibility slowly became overwhelming.

Illuminati Films began its journey with Love Aaj Kal, directed by Imtiaz Ali. The romantic drama turned into a massive box-office success and helped establish the banner in the industry. After that, the company produced several notable films including Agent Vinod, Cocktail, Go Goa Gone and Happy Ending.

The actor also spoke warmly about his collaboration with Eros International and producer Dinesh Vijan, who was his production partner during the company’s most successful years. Saif said the partnership worked well during that phase of their careers but eventually people moved on and things naturally changed.

After Saif Ali Khan and Dinesh Vijan professionally parted ways in 2014, Dinesh went on to build Maddock Films into one of the most successful production houses in Hindi cinema. The company later produced acclaimed films such as Badlapur, Hindi Medium, Mimi and Chhaava. Maddock also created a hugely popular horror-comedy universe with films like Stree, Bhediya and Munjya.

Saif especially appreciated how Red Chillies Entertainment supports strong creative ideas and passionate filmmakers. The actor also praised the company’s streaming projects, including Class of ’83, Bob Biswas, Darlings and Bhakshak.

On the professional front, Saif Ali Khan will next be seen in Haiwaan, directed by Priyadarshan, and Hum Hindustani by Rahul Dholakia.
