Indian cricketer Abishek Porel has come under the spotlight after the Calcutta High Court directed his arrest in connection with a rape case filed by a woman. The 23-year-old represents Bengal in domestic cricket and Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Apart from ordering his arrest, the High Court also instructed Mogra Police to seize Abishek Porel’s electronic devices. The court’s direction was aimed at preventing the alleged circulation of photographs and other digital material related to the complainant.
According to the woman’s complaint, Abishek Porel developed a relationship with her after contacting her in January 2023. She alleged that he promised to marry her, after which they entered into a physical relationship. The complainant also claimed that he recorded their intimate moments without her consent.
The High Court, in its order, noted that one pen drive or storage device had already been seized during the investigation. It further observed that the accused still needed to be apprehended so that electronic devices in their possession could also be seized to ensure any alleged objectionable material stored on them is not shared further. The court directed the police to continue efforts to arrest the accused and recover the relevant devices.

According to reports, Abishek Porel allegedly took the woman to his flat in Mankundu while his parents were away. The complainant has accused him of forcing her into a physical relationship.
The complaint further states that both the families later discussed the possibility of marriage. However, the woman later alleged that she came to know Abishek Porel had also been involved in physical relationships with other women.
In the complaint filed with Mogra Police, the woman also alleged that Abishek Porel unlawfully confined her, prevented her from accessing food and deliberately isolated her.
The complaint additionally claims that an incident in Delhi on April 2, 2026, left her physically injured. According to the allegations, she became unable to walk properly and had to seek immediate medical treatment despite having a scheduled flight the next day.

The woman has also alleged that Abishek Porel threatened her through phone calls and social media by using the accounts of an associate and a third-party mobile number.
The allegations against Abishek Porel are currently under investigation and the High Court has directed the police to continue legal proceedings, including efforts to apprehend the accused and seize electronic devices as part of the investigation.
