Great news for all Brahmastra fans – the wait for the second part is finally going to end! Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s film Brahmastra was released in 2022 and since then fans have been waiting for an update on the next film in Ayan Mukerji’s Astraverse. Now it seems the wait is over.
According to sources, Ranbir Kapoor will start shooting for Brahmastra Part 2 soon after he finishes shooting for Part 2 of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, which will be by January 2027. A source said that Ranbir is very excited to start this journey again. In a big challenge, Ranbir will be seen in a double role in the sequel, playing both Dev and Shiva.
An even bigger update is that while the main cast of the first film will return for the second film, director Ayan is also keen to bring Deepika Padukone into the franchise and is currently talking to her for the role of Amruta.
The source said that Ayan and his core team are very confident about getting Deepika on board, as they feel that the role of Amruta needs an actress with a very strong and powerful presence. However, the final confirmation will depend on whether her dates and the overall timeline match.
Brahmastra Part One: Shiva was released in theatres on September 9, 2022. It was the first film where real-life couple Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt appeared together on screen. The film, directed by Ayan Mukerji, also had Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna and Mouni Roy in important roles and Shah Rukh Khan also had a special cameo in the film. The film was loved by many and earned close to Rs 400 crore at the box office.
In April 2023, Ayan Mukerji had given a statement and announced the release dates of Brahmastra Part Two: Dev and Brahmastra Part Three. He had announced that the second part would be released in December 2026 and the third and final part would be released a year later in 2027 but things did not go according to plan.
The filmmaker had also promised that Brahmastra 2 and 3 will be much bigger than the first part and that he will make both the films together. In his statement, he had said that after receiving all the love and feedback for Part One, he has been working on the vision for Part Two and Part Three, which will be bigger and more ambitious than Part One.
