England cricket is in trouble again for off-field drama. Their fast bowler Brydon Carse is now under investigation after a nightclub incident, the England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed on Sunday.
Shocking videos on social media seem to show Brydon Carse in handcuffs, being taken out of a nightclub in Derby, central England, by four police officers on Saturday night. The Durham fast bowler, who is part of England’s squad for the second Test against Pakistan, was seen with his teammate Matthew Potts at the club.
The ECB said they are aware of what reportedly happened in Derby and are investigating it at the moment, and they will give more information later.

Both Brydon Carse and Matthew Potts had just played for Durham in the same city. Durham thrashed Derbyshire by 338 runs in a second division County Championship match in Derby.
Brydon Carse was England’s best bowler during their bad 4-1 Ashes series loss in Australia in 2025/26, taking 22 wickets. He was picked in the squad for the first two Tests of the three-match series against Pakistan but he did not play in the first Test. England won that match by an innings and 103 runs inside just three days at Headingley this week. The second Test at Lord’s starts on Thursday.
This incident comes just after new Test captain Joe Root announced there will be no curfew during his second time as captain.
The curfew was first started in January after many late-night incidents on tours of New Zealand and Australia. White-ball captain Harry Brook was also involved in a fight with a nightclub bouncer in Wellington.
One of the biggest controversies at the end of the ‘Bazball’ era was in June at a London nightclub, when former Test captain Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson stayed out after the midnight curfew. Because of that, both of them missed the second Test against New Zealand at the Oval. At that time, Joe Root, who was both Ben Stokes’ former captain and now his replacement, took charge of the team temporarily.

Explaining his decision, Joe Root said there will be no curfew because he does not believe curfews work. He said if players have to be responsible on the field, they should be treated as adults off the field and trusted to make good decisions.
Brydon Carse has not played for England in any format since the Ashes ended in January. A hand injury spoiled his start to 2026 and he also had to miss the Indian Premier League. The 31-year-old has played 14 Tests, 30 ODIs and 14 T20s for England. Two years ago, he was also banned for three months for betting. He accepted that he had placed 303 bets on various cricket matches between 2017 and 2019 in an investigation by the domestic Cricket Regulator, though he did not bet on matches he was playing in.
