The Brahmastra universe is expanding fast and the buzz around its sequel just got a lot more interesting. Ranbir Kapoor’s Brahmastra 2 is turning into a packed, high-profile project and the latest name being added to the mix is Saiyaara breakout star Aneet Padda who’s reportedly being considered for a significant role in the film.
According to industry sources, discussions with Aneet are already in progress, though nothing has been locked in yet. Insiders note that the role being offered to her is quite unlike anything she’s played before, which is part of what makes the potential casting so intriguing.
Meanwhile, there’s been plenty of confusion around Deepika Padukone’s involvement. The first film had hinted that she would eventually play Amruta, the mother of Ranbir’s character Shiva. But her spokesperson has now firmly denied any connection to the sequel, stating that reports linking her to the project in any capacity are simply not accurate.
There’s also a major twist involving the role of Shiva’s father, Dev — a character whose love story with Amruta is expected to be a key part of the sequel. Ranveer Singh was long rumoured to play Dev but newer reports suggest otherwise: instead of bringing in Ranveer, Ranbir Kapoor himself may take on both the roles, playing Shiva and Dev in a dual performance.
Sources have described Ranbir as genuinely thrilled about returning to the franchise and taking on this dual-role challenge, calling it a major undertaking for him. It’s also been reported that director Ayan Mukerji had been actively pushing to get Deepika involved in the project, even amid the denials.
As for Alia Bhatt, reports indicate she will return as Isha, reprising her role from the first film, though her part this time will reportedly be more of an extended appearance rather than a lead track. She’s expected to shoot for around 25 days, while the overall production is estimated to run for roughly 125 days. Exact shooting schedules haven’t been confirmed but Ranbir is expected to start filming his portion soon after wrapping up Ramayana Part 1, which is set for release around Diwali this year.
The original Brahmastra released in 2022, bringing together Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt alongside a star-studded cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, Mouni Roy and Shah Rukh Khan. The fantasy adventure drew mixed reviews from critics but did well commercially at the box office.
