Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s return in the Indian team has given some hopes to fans of Mohammed Shami and now they are sure that for Shami, the door to international cricket may not be closed yet. Shami is also working pretty hard to earn another chance with the national team.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has returned to the Indian team after remaining away from international cricket for nearly four years. His comeback was driven by impressive performances in consecutive IPL seasons, during which Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the title two years in a row. The experienced pacer has now been selected in India’s T20I squad for the upcoming tour of New Zealand.
Talking about Mohammed Shami, he last played for India in March 2025, when he featured in the Champions Trophy final. Former India fast bowler and Bengal stalwart Laxmi Ratan Shukla has continued to back Shami and believes the pacer can make another comeback.
Laxmi Ratan Shukla, who is currently the Bengal coach, highlighted Shami’s commitment and performances for Bengal this season. He said Shami has been bowling with the energy of a youngster and deserves to finish his career playing for India.

Laxmi Ratan Shukla also recalled watching Shami’s journey from his early days as a net bowler to becoming an established international cricketer. He said Shami has remained highly committed to Bengal and continues to motivate the players around him.
According to Laxmi Ratan Shukla, Shami’s desire to represent India remains strong, while his dedication to his state team has also been remarkable. He expressed confidence that the fast bowler can perform well this season and earn another opportunity with India.
The motivation to return to the national team is also understood to be one of the reasons behind Shami’s continued hard work. Shami has represented India in 64 Tests, 108 ODIs and 25 T20Is. Despite being away from the international setup, the 2026 Duleep Trophy final showed that he has not lost his hunger to compete at the highest level.

After the Duleep Trophy final, Shami spoke about the importance of staying motivated and always looking toward the next challenge, regardless of the level at which a player is competing.
With Bhuvneshwar now back in India colours, Shami will hope his own performances can similarly convince the selectors that he still has more to offer on the international stage.
