A decade of leadership has come to an end for Harmanpreet Kaur but her contribution to Indian women’s cricket is being remembered by the players who shared the journey with her.
India’s new all-format captain Smriti Mandhana shared a heartfelt message for her predecessor on Wednesday, reflecting on the 10 years they spent playing together and under Harmanpreet Kaur’s leadership.
Smriti Mandhana described Harmanpreet’s decade-long captaincy as a fantastic journey and said she hoped the two could continue playing together for many more years. She also expressed her determination to work alongside Harmanpreet to bring more success and glory to India.

Harmanpreet Kaur stepped down as India’s captain across all formats on Tuesday, bringing an end to her decade-long stint at the helm. During her captaincy, she led India to their maiden ODI World Cup title in November 2025 and helped the team win two Asian Games gold medals, in 2023 and 2026.
Smriti Mandhana, who has now taken charge as India’s all-format captain, will begin her full-time captaincy stint with the home T20I and ODI series against Zimbabwe later this month.
Several other Indian players also paid tribute to Harmanpreet Kaur. India batter Jemimah Rodrigues, who is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, thanked Harmanpreet for her years of leadership and acknowledged everything she had done for the team.
India wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh shared a picture on social media of herself carrying Harmanpreet on her back. She said that while Harmanpreet’s captaincy chapter had ended, her influence on Indian cricket and the players around her would continue. Richa also affectionately referred to Harmanpreet as “Harry di”, highlighting the bond she shares with the former captain.
Meanwhile, India spinner Shree Charani also expressed her gratitude to Harmanpreet Kaur. Shree Charani had become one of Harmanpreet’s trusted, go-to bowlers across formats and different playing conditions as her own career progressed.
Harmanpreet Kaur may have stepped away from the captaincy but her decade-long leadership has left behind a significant legacy for the next generation of Indian women cricketers.
