A special congratulatory message from MS Dhoni became an unforgettable moment for Smriti Mandhana after India created history by winning their maiden Women’s ODI World Cup title in November 2025.

India’s women’s cricket team captain recently revealed that Dhoni personally sent her a WhatsApp message after the historic victory. Smriti Mandhana shared this during a promotional event featuring the former Indian captain, admitting that she was extremely happy to hear from him, especially because he is known for rarely using his phone.
Smriti Mandhana revealed that Dhoni had messaged her to congratulate the team on their World Cup triumph. She was particularly excited that he had taken the time to send a WhatsApp message despite not being very active on his phone.
During the conversation, host Harsha Bhogle asked Smriti Mandhana whether she already had MS Dhoni’s number saved. She confirmed that she did.

MS Dhoni then revealed an interesting reason behind choosing Smriti Mandhana to convey his wishes. He explained that she was the only player from the Indian women’s team whose contact number he had saved. Since the two had recently shot a commercial together, he decided to message her and asked her to pass on his congratulations to everyone in the team.

India created history on November 2, 2025, by defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final at Navi Mumbai to lift their first-ever ICC Women’s ODI World Cup trophy. Batting first, India posted an impressive total of 298/7, with Shafali Verma scoring 87 runs and Deepti Sharma contributing 58. Deepti then delivered another outstanding performance with the ball, taking five wickets as India bowled South Africa out for 246.

Despite a brilliant century from South African captain Laura Wolvaardt, her team’s efforts fell short of the target.
The historic final came just days after India pulled off a remarkable run chase against Australia in the semi-final, securing their place in the title clash. The World Cup victory ended India’s long wait for a maiden ODI World Cup title, making Dhoni’s personal congratulatory message an even more memorable moment for Smriti Mandhana and the entire team.
