On the list of CSK most runs and wickets, MS Dhoni leads the batting with 4,865 runs in 248 matches. Ravindra Jadeja has the most wickets, 143, just ahead of Dwayne Bravo’s 140. Dhoni has also played the most matches. CSK’s highest total is 246/5 against Rajasthan Royals in 2010. Figures are counted up to the end of IPL 2026.

As of: all numbers in this article cover CSK’s IPL matches up to their last game of IPL 2026, the 89-run loss to Gujarat Titans on 21 May 2026. Only matches played for Chennai Super Kings count, so Dhoni’s games for Rising Pune Supergiant and Jadeja’s games for other teams are not included.

Who has scored the most runs for CSK?

Dhoni sits on top with 4,865 runs from 248 matches between 2008 and 2025. Most of his runs came lower down the order, often in the last few overs, which makes the total more striking. Since he did not play in IPL 2026 due to a calf strain, his tally has not changed since the 2025 season.

Suresh Raina, known to fans as “Mr IPL”, is second with 4,687 runs in 176 matches. For many years Raina led this list, and the gap between the two is now 178 runs.

Rank Player Matches Runs Years
1 MS Dhoni 248 4,865 2008 to 2025
2 Suresh Raina 176 4,687 2008 to 2021
3 Ruturaj Gaikwad 85 2,839 2020 to 2026
4 Faf du Plessis 92 2,721 2012 to 2021
5 Ravindra Jadeja 186 2,198 2012 to 2025

The one change in 2026 came at number three. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad made 337 runs in the season and moved past Faf du Plessis. He reached that spot in just 85 matches, and he is the only active CSK player in the top five.

Who has taken the most wickets for CSK?

Ravindra Jadeja leads with 143 wickets in 186 matches. Dwayne Bravo, the death-overs specialist of the 2010s, is second with 140 wickets in 116 matches. Bravo’s wickets came at a quicker rate per match, but Jadeja’s longer stay kept him ahead.

Rank Player Matches Wickets Years
1 Ravindra Jadeja 186 143 2012 to 2025
2 Dwayne Bravo 116 140 2011 to 2022
3 Ravichandran Ashwin 106 97 2009 to 2025
4 Albie Morkel 78 76 2008 to 2013
4 Deepak Chahar 76 76 2018 to 2024

None of the top five played for CSK in 2026. Jadeja moved to Rajasthan Royals in the trade that brought Sanju Samson to Chennai, Ashwin retired from the IPL in August 2025, and Chahar left before the 2025 season. This means Jadeja’s 143 is now a fixed target for current bowlers.

The leading CSK wicket-taker in 2026 was Anshul Kamboj with 21 wickets, followed by Jamie Overton with 14 and Noor Ahmad with 13.

Most matches for CSK

Dhoni has played 248 IPL matches for CSK, far more than anyone else. He captained the side in most of them, leading CSK from 2008 to 2023 and again for most of 2025.

  1. MS Dhoni: 248 matches (2008 to 2025)
  2. Ravindra Jadeja: 186 matches (2012 to 2025)
  3. Suresh Raina: 176 matches (2008 to 2021)
  4. Dwayne Bravo: 116 matches (2011 to 2022)
  5. Ravichandran Ashwin: 106 matches (2009 to 2025)

Dhoni missed all of IPL 2026, the first season since 2008 in which he did not play. Gaikwad has said Dhoni’s plans for 2027 will be known only next year.

CSK highest team totals in the IPL

CSK’s highest total is 246/5 against Rajasthan Royals at Chepauk on 14 May 2010. It has stood for more than 16 years. Their best total in IPL 2026 was 212/2 against Delhi Capitals, well short of the record.

  1. 246/5 vs Rajasthan Royals, Chennai, 2010
  2. 240/5 vs Kings XI Punjab, Mohali, 2008
  3. 235/4 vs Kolkata Knight Riders, Kolkata, 2023
  4. 230/5 vs Gujarat Titans, Ahmedabad, 2025
  5. 223/3 vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, Hyderabad, 2013, and vs Delhi Capitals, Delhi, 2023

Note that the 250/3 scored in the CSK vs RCB match at Bengaluru on 5 April 2026 was RCB’s total, not CSK’s. CSK lost that game by 43 runs.

Highest individual scores for CSK

Murali Vijay’s 127 against Rajasthan Royals in 2010 is the highest score by a CSK batter. Sanju Samson came close in his first season, with an unbeaten 115 against Delhi Capitals at Chepauk on 11 April 2026.

Score Batter Opponent Year
127 Murali Vijay Rajasthan Royals 2010
117* Shane Watson Sunrisers Hyderabad (final) 2018
116* Michael Hussey Kings XI Punjab 2008
115* Sanju Samson Delhi Capitals 2026
113 Murali Vijay Delhi Daredevils 2012

Samson also hit 101 not out off 54 balls against Mumbai Indians on 23 April 2026, giving him two hundreds for CSK in his debut season. He finished the year as CSK’s top scorer with 477 runs.

Best bowling figures for CSK

Ravindra Jadeja’s 5/16 against Deccan Chargers in Visakhapatnam in 2012 remains CSK’s best bowling in an IPL innings. L Balaji’s 5/24 against Kings XI Punjab at Chepauk in 2008 is next. Ashish Nehra (against RCB in 2015) and Lungi Ngidi (against Kings XI Punjab in 2018) both took 4/10.

In 2026, Akeal Hosein’s 4/17 in the 103-run win over Mumbai Indians was one of the standout spells of CSK’s season.

Biggest wins and lowest totals

  • Biggest win by runs: 103 runs against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede on 23 April 2026. CSK made 207/6 and bowled MI out for 104. This broke CSK’s old record of 97 runs against Kings XI Punjab in 2015, and it was also MI’s heaviest defeat by runs in the IPL.
  • Biggest win by wickets: nine wickets against Kolkata Knight Riders at Chepauk in 2010, with 39 balls to spare.
  • Lowest total: 79 all out against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede in 2013.

Other CSK records worth knowing

  • Most sixes: Dhoni has hit 234 sixes for CSK, ahead of Raina’s 180. Shivam Dube and Gaikwad have both crossed 100 sixes for the franchise.
  • Most catches by a fielder: Raina took 98 catches, with Jadeja second.
  • Wicketkeeping: Dhoni has made more dismissals behind the stumps for CSK than every other keeper put together.
  • Most hundreds: Samson, Watson, Gaikwad and Vijay have two centuries each for CSK.

Which CSK records could change in IPL 2027?

Most of the top marks are held by players who have retired or left, so they will not move easily. Gaikwad is the active batter closest to the top of the run list, but he still needs 1,849 more runs to pass Raina and 2,027 to pass Dhoni. At his 2026 pace of 337 runs a season, that would take several more years.

The bowling record is a longer wait. Kamboj’s 21 wickets in 2026 was a strong season, but Jadeja’s 143 is a target that would need many seasons of similar returns. Samson’s two hundreds in one season, on the other hand, already put him level with Watson, Gaikwad and Vijay, so the record for most CSK centuries could change as early as next season.

For more on the franchise, read about Zaheer Khan’s appointment as CSK head coach and the debate over whether Samson should replace Gaikwad as captain.
