A routine ride home turned into a terrifying experience for a woman who had just landed in Delhi, after she allegedly faced threats and physical aggression from a cab driver over a fare dispute. The woman, Tanisha Sharma, shared her experience on social media, claiming that an argument over the payment escalated into a frightening confrontation outside her home in Gurugram.

According to Tanisha Sharma, she booked an Uber from Delhi airport to Gurugram in the early hours of the morning. She described the journey as a 20-minute ride, with the fare displayed on the Uber app being approximately ₹625. However, after the journey, the driver allegedly showed her a screenshot of a ₹1,479 fare quoted on Rapido and demanded that she pay the higher amount. When Tanisha Sharma pointed out that the screenshot was from a different ride-hailing platform, the driver reportedly insisted that the route normally cost that much. Tanisha said she paid ₹625 fare displayed on her Uber app.

She alleged that the situation became frightening after she made the payment. According to her account, the driver locked the car and refused to let her take her luggage unless she pays ₹1,479. When she tried to retrieve her belongings, he allegedly grabbed her arm and shut the front-seat window where her luggage was kept.

Tanisha Sharma said she eventually managed to get her bags and attempted to enter her home. However, she claimed that the driver followed her, forced his way through the gate and verbally abused her. Even after she managed to get inside and lock the door, the situation allegedly continued. Tanisha claimed that the driver began climbing the gate while hurling abuses and threatening to k*ll her. The alleged incident took place at around 4:45 am in Gurugram, shortly after Tanisha had landed at Delhi airport.

Describing the experience on social media, Tanisha said the situation had gone far beyond a disagreement over the fare. She characterised it as an incident involving intimidation, physical aggression and a serious threat to her safety outside her own home.

Woman Questions Uber’s Safety Support

Apart from describing the alleged confrontation, Tanisha Sharma also raised concerns about Uber’s safety support system. She claimed that the safety support option was unavailable when she attempted to report the incident. She tagged Uber and its India support accounts, demanding an urgent response, a proper investigation and concrete action. She also asked the company to preserve the trip details and driver records.

Tanisha Sharma said she had used cab services in different countries but had never expected to feel so unsafe while trying to reach home in India. She questioned how passengers could trust a service they booked specifically to travel home safely. In her social media post, Tanisha identified the driver as Jamil Jahid Khan. However, the allegations against him have not been independently verified.

Uber India Responds After Social Media Users Demand Action

Tanisha Sharma’s post attracted reactions from social media users, many of whom expressed concern over her account and called for action beyond Uber’s internal complaint process.

Uber India Support responded to her post, stating that it had addressed her concern and sent her a direct message containing further details. However, the company did not publicly explain what action, if any, had been taken in response to the complaint.

Several users urged Tanisha Sharma to approach the police, arguing that the alleged incident required attention from law enforcement rather than relying solely on the cab company’s support team. One commenter described the matter as a potential criminal case and encouraged her to contact the Delhi Police for assistance. Another user advised her to file a police complaint and seek legal help, stressing the importance of taking steps to protect other women from similar experiences.

Questions were also raised about the company’s driver verification process. A user who referred to a similar experience involving their mother tagged Uber’s support account and questioned whether the company conducted proper background checks before allowing drivers to join its platform.

Other users called on Uber to investigate the complaint promptly and take appropriate action against the driver if the allegations were established. One user described the reported incident as deeply disturbing and unacceptable, urging the company to prevent passengers from facing alleged threats and financial demands from drivers.

The incident has sparked a wider discussion online about passenger safety, driver verification and the responsibility of ride-hailing companies to respond effectively when customers report serious concerns.
