Even after smashing one of the most explosive centuries in T20 cricket, Abhishek Sharma had to face a playful reminder from his mentor Yuvraj Singh. The former India all-rounder congratulated Abhishek for his incredible performance against New Zealand but also reminded him that his own record-breaking 12-ball half-century from the 2007 T20 World Cup still stands.
Abhishek Sharma produced a stunning performance in the third T20I against New Zealand on Tuesday. He scored a half-century in just 15 balls before completing his century in only 35 deliveries. After reaching the milestone, he celebrated with his now-famous meditation pose, leaving New Zealand’s players and spectators amazed by his powerful hitting.
Following India’s victory, Yuvraj Singh took to X to tease his mentee. He pointed out that Abhishek Sharma had still not managed to score a half-century in 12 balls, the record Yuvraj set against England during the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007. He also joked that watching the two left-handed batters play was like seeing them dominate in their own backyard.

Abhishek Sharma responded to Yuvraj Singh’s post during the post-match presentation, acknowledging how difficult it is to score at such a pace. He said that he had mentioned this before as well and that while his mentor’s achievement might look easy on paper, scoring a 12-ball fifty requires extraordinary skill.

Yuvraj was not done yet. In another post on X, he praised the youngster’s innings while playfully pointing out that Abhishek had even managed to take a few singles during his knock.

Meanwhile, 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi also delivered an explosive performance, scoring 45 runs off just 18 balls. However, Abhishek Sharma’s incredible innings stole the spotlight as India chased down the target in just 13.2 overs.
The Indian team also created history during the chase, recording the fastest team hundred in just five overs and scoring a record-breaking 118 runs in the powerplay. With this victory, India secured their third consecutive T20I series win in New Zealand. They had previously swept the hosts 5-0 in 2020 before winning the 2022 series 1-0.
While Abhishek Sharma’s record-breaking knock earned widespread praise, Yuvraj Singh’s playful banter added another entertaining moment to the occasion, showing the fun relationship between the former cricketer and his talented protégé.
