After ‘Metro’ and ‘Rapid Metro’, Gurgaon is all set to welcome the most unique public transport system. Gurgaon is going to be India’s 1st city to have the Pod Taxi Services (Metrino). This is a driverless sytem and would run overhead. Yes! You are going to travel in the air! Customers are definitely going to have fun when they sit in these small air-conditioned pods and travel comfortably. National Highway Authority of India has already started working on Personal Rapid Transit. By the 1st week of April, work on this plan would begin. Investment of approximately 850 crore is expected to come.
What is Metrino?
Metrino is a new and advanced public transport system. It would consist of small air conditioned cabins that are few meters above the ground and operate through poles and overhead cables. This is completely a driver less and fully automatic system. However, its stations are going to be on the ground, like other normal stations. One pod accommodates nearly 6 to 8 people. This technique is definitely going to help curb pollution problems. The investment made in this project is 5 times lesser than the investment for ‘Metro’ project.
There would be 16 stations !
As per the officials, the pilot project would cover a 13km stretch right from Ambience Mall on the Gurgaon-Delhi border to Sohna Road. 16 stations would be developed between the same. The pods would travel at an average speed of 60kmph.
