In Khargon district’s Baadi village, people are committing suicide like crazy. There is no natural calamity of any sort but still, at least one member from each family has chosen the path of suicide. Even the sarpanch of the village has committed suicide by hanging himself to the tree.
In the starting 3 months of this year, around 80 people have committed suicide. Rajendra Sisodiya, the new Sarpanch of the village says that this is a sign of evil.
This is one of the backward villages of Khargon district and poverty prevails. People here are quite superstitious. Last year, around 381 cases of suicide were registered. Sisodiya says that there are 320 families in the village, out of which 1 member from each family has committed suicide. The population of this village of 2500 and out of that 350 people have already committed suicide in recent years, 80 being in this very year. Although villagers believe in the presence of some bad evil, psychologists state that the reason for this is depression that occurs due to usage of excess pesticides in the farms.
In Baadi village, people mainly depend on the production of cotton and if the output is affected due to some or the other reason, tension and pressure arises. This might be one of the reasons for so many suicide cases. A committee has been called to look into this matter.
