Nothing is more psychologically, physically and mentally as tiring as a test match. T20s and ODIs on the other hand are quite fast paced and have that entertainment factor in them. By the way have you ever wondered why cricketers wear white in test matches? We are sure you must have had this question many times, but you probably don’t have the answer to this! Let us answer this for you ! There are several reasons why cricketers wear white during test matches!
Reason 1 – Owing to tradition!
There is a ‘traditional’ aspect attached to white clothing. Cricket has been played since 1800s now. White symbolizes purity and since, cricket is a gentleman’s game, ‘white’ is just the perfect color. Till the early 2000s, cricketers used to where whites in ODI cricket too, except in South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. However, after the WC 1992, ODI cricket gears started moving from whites to colored. Then by 2002, ODI cricket had completely shifted to colored clothing.
Reason 2 – Owing to the comfort factor attached to it!
When it comes to Test Cricket, cricketers are required to stay on field for around 5 days and that too in the hot sun. This is surely a grueling experience for the cricketers especially during summers. If white clothes are worn, heat is reflected better and offers a lot of comfort to the cricketers as compared to other colors. Even the stress levels of the players are reduced and they are prevented from dehydration and sun-stroke to some extent.
Reason 3- Keeping a watch on the ball!
As you all know, dark red ball is used in Test cricket. If players are wearing whites, spotting the ball is pretty easy. Even when we talk about the T20 or modern day ODI cricket, colored clothing helps to spot the white ball in a better way.
