A Dalit Devotee Attacked And Urinated In Mouth In Tamil Nadu - RVCJ Media

On his way to visit a temple, M.Aravindhan was attacked by some upper caste people. Aravindhan who works as a welder at a private company in Bangalore, went to the temple with one of his relative R Dinesh where he had to listen filthy words, and when the duo tried to protest, they were thrashed badly.

The 20 year old Dalit youth and his relative were dragged to the nearby toilet and were beaten mercilessly. When the devotee asked for water, the men allegedly urinated in his mouth. However, Dinesh fortunately escaped from the place and went on to inform and aware the family members, who rushed to the spot to rescue Arvind.

M.Aravindhan who suffered from several injuries was admitted to the Dharmapuri Government Medical College and Hospital. When he went to register a case under SC/ST Atrocities Prevention Act, the police allegedly refused to file the complaint.

“Police officials told me that they would extort money from the non-dalits in return for not registering a case against them. So, we have decided to take up this issue to the court,” Ravi said.
However, the district secretary Kuravan Pazhankudiina Makkal Sangam (TNKPMS) S Ravi urged the Kallavi police to register the case under SC/ST Atrocities Prevention Act.

Why is it so that the police do not accept cases filed by the victim? Why is higher order influence required?
