Akshay Kumar starrer “Airlift” hit the screens today and touched the hearts of those who watched it. The movie is based on the real incident of India’s biggest evacuation which was conducted by India in order to bring its 1,70,000 countrymen back home from war-ridden Kuwait which was attacked by Iraq in 1990.
The movie is the directorial debut of Raja Krishna Menon who conducted a good amount of research for his project. He says that the details of the persons who carried out the mission from the front were not clear but he came across two persons named Sunny Mathews and Vedi. These two played an important role in the rescue work and were members of unofficial committee too. Ranjit Katyal, the character played by Akshay is inspired by these men.
Rhea Mathews, the granddaughter of Sunny Mathews recollected the memories of her grandfather and posted an emotional message on Facebook. Her Facebook post read this:
