The legal problems of Akshay Kumar starrer “Jolly LLB 2” doesn’t seem to end soon as the Supreme Court has told the producer to approach the Bombay HC against the order given by the HC of making a committee of three members to review the movie which is slated to release on 10th February, 2017.
Kapil Sibal, the lawyer of the producer, was told by the bench headed by Justice Ranjan Gogoi, “You (producer) go to the high court. We will keep it (plea) pending here.”
Earlier, the Bombay HC passed an order of appointing a three-member committee for reviewing the movie as it has been alleged that the film has made fun of Indian legal and judicial system. In response to this order, the producer of “Jolly LLB 2”, Fox Studios, made an appeal in the apex court against this order of the Bombay HC.
Kapil also claimed in front of the bench that appointment of the committee is not as per the law and the movie has already been passed by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). In his words, “We have the CBFC certificate. How can this (review by committee) be done? It is not in accordance with the law.”
Kapil said this when the SC bench asked the producer to approach the HC, “Then the review by the committee should be postponed till the high court decides it”. However, in response to it, the SC bench said, “We will not say anything on that. Let the high court hear it first. We post this matter for further consideration…we leave it to the high court to pass appropriate order.”
When Kapil requested the SC bench to watch “Jolly LLB 2”, Judge Gogoi said, “We will not see the film. We will tell you why we will not see the film. We don’t have three hours’ patience. Don’t you think that three hours is too long?”
The three-member committee has been set up by the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay HC after a petition was filed by lawyer Ajaykumar Waghmare as he told the court, “It is an attempt to portray the Indian legal profession and judicial system as a laughing stock to society at large.”
February 1 was fixed by the HC for the movie’s review by the committee and the next hearing of the case was scheduled on February 3.
