This didn’t go well with users on Twitter who trolled both Akshay & Twinkle for announcing an auction of naval uniform. Have a look at some reactions-
Mr.Canadian It’s Costume Not A Uniform 😜
it’s Different Matter actors Are good Sellers But Don’t Dare With Honor
Uniform = Honor

R u allowed to do it do u hv necessary permissions from the concerned authorities. Isn't this concerning national security after all?

If you were an Indian citizen I would place a bid. So lets talk after you give up your Canadian citizenship

It's a costume, not a uniform and You are not a soldier.
— Amol Khodke (@AmolvKhodke) April 28, 2018
You mean the uniform that was factually incorrect? Later pointed out by naval officers.
— JOI (@just_one_indian) April 28, 2018
Wearing an armed forces uniform is surely a matter of pride. Let that pride be earned and not bought! Stop this nonsensical bid!

R u kidding me? U r not a soldier to own a uniform. If u were, u wouldn’t have thought of auctioning it in public. I think u need some training on patriotism which u keep boosting in your movies to make more money. It’s not just piece of clothes. It’s an honor of the country.

Lt Col Sandeep Ahlawat also wrote a strong message for Twinkle Khanna on Facebook. Here’s what he said-
Dear Twinkle Khanna,
I am not on Instagram so giving you a rebuttal on Facebook. Your idea of auctioning the costume that your husband donned in movie Rustom for raising money for your NGO is as sick as your funnybones jokes/books/blog. Your Instagram post about the nauseating idea is flawed on following grounds:-
1. What your husband wore in movie Rustom was a piece of costume and not uniform.
2. Indian Armed forces wives (Army, Navy and Airforce) do not auction their husbands uniforms.
3. Uniform is not a piece of cloth that a producer hands over to cinestars for enacting roles and make some quick bucks. The permission to wear Uniform comes from the office of the President of India. Uniform is earned with your blood, toil and sweat which is placed on the mortal remains of a soldiers along with the tricolour.
4. If you even make a feeble attempt to auction this piece of costume in the garb of “UNIFORM” then I will drag you to the court. You may like to check my credentials. You touch our honour and we will give you a bloody nose.
An enraged citizen!!
He also posted a couple of pictures along with the message-
His post soon went viral and grabbed the attention of Twinkle. Finding his words provocative and threatening, Twinkle Khanna wrote that she will take a legal action against him. Here’s what she said-
As a society do we really think it’s all right to threaten a woman with bodily harm for trying to raise funds for a charity by auctioning a uniform used in a movie,a piece of film memorabilia ? I will not retaliate with violent threats but by taking legal action! #JaiHind
