Sushma Swaraj has been setting an example for all the politicians ever since she has stepped up as the External Affairs Minister. The External Affairs Ministry of India has come up with yet another gift for all the Indian citizens.

Now you won’t have to spend days standing in queues at the passport offices to apply for a passport. You will now be able to apply for passports even at your nearest post office. The External Affairs Ministry has come up with this initiative to reduce the work load on passport offices and also to make the process of applying for a new passport more simplified.

In the first phase of this initiative which will start functioning before the end of next month, passport services will be provided at selected post offices in the states of Rajasthan, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Jharkhand.

Currently 89 Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) are operating all across the nation along with the 38 main passport offices. As per the data given by the MEA, the government provided around 1.15 crore passport and other related services during 2016.

In Rajasthan, passport services will be available in Kota, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Jhunjhunu and Jhalawar. In West Bengal it will be available in Asansol, Nadia, North Dinajpur North Kolkata. In Jharkhand, services will be offered in Deoghar, Jamshedpur and Dhanbad. The new initiative will also be rolled out in Selam and Vellore in Tamil Nadu and in Belgaum, Davangere, Hassan, Gulbarga and Mysuru in Karnataka.

This initiative is surely expected to make our passport applying experience a pleasant one. After the first phase, other cities too will be covered in the upcoming phases of e initiative.
