A social media post by actress Anushka Sharma has once again brought the debate over homeopathy into the spotlight, triggering strong reactions from both supporters and critics of the alternative medical practice.
The discussion started after Anushka Sharma shared a video featuring renowned homeopathic physician Rajan Sankaran in conversation with entrepreneur Namita Thapar. In the post, the actor spoke about her personal experience with homeopathy and acknowledged the role it has played in her health journey.
According to Anushka Sharma, homeopathy has been an important part of her life, while Rajan Sankaran has significantly influenced her understanding of health and mindful living. Her endorsement quickly attracted attention online, sparking fresh conversations about the effectiveness and place of homeopathy in modern healthcare.
Here is Anushka Sharma’s post:
The video itself focused on the relationship between different medical systems and argued that they should work together rather than compete with one another. During the discussion, Rajan Sankaran emphasised that homeopathy focuses on treating individuals rather than specific diseases. He also stated that, like all medical systems, homeopathy has its limitations and cannot cure every patient.
Rajan Sankaran further argued that some long-term health conditions, including multiple sclerosis, allergies and eczema, often lack complete solutions in modern medicine. According to him, this has led some conventional medical practitioners to refer patients for homeopathic treatment. He stressed that healthcare is increasingly moving toward an integrated approach, where different systems can complement each other. Rather than debating which system is superior, he said the focus should be on understanding the strengths and limitations of each.

However, the video drew sharp criticism from hepatologist Cyriac Abby Philips, popularly known online as The Liver Doc. A long-time critic of homeopathy, Philips strongly objected to the views presented in the discussion and criticised all three public figures associated with the video. Referring to Rajan Sankaran, Namita Thapar and Anushka Sharma, he called them a “triangle of shame” and used the phrase “Supplement Seller – Legalized Quack – Illiterate Celeb” in his social media post.
Abby Philips also repeated his long-held criticism of homeopathy, arguing that its remedies contain no active medicinal ingredients. He claimed that homeopathic products are essentially made of water, alcohol and sugar, describing them as expensive sugar pills that do not contain actual medicine.
The exchange has once again highlighted the deep divide between supporters of homeopathy and advocates of evidence-based medicine.
