Rohit Sharma is undoubtedly one of the best batsmen of the present times and the Indian team will certainly miss him on the Australian tour as the Indian cricketer is not a part of the Indian squad for the 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is. Rohit Sharma suffered a hamstring injury during the IPL 2020 because of which he missed some of the IPL matches but he made sure that he was with his team in the final which was the most important match of the tournament.
MI lifted the IPL trophy for the fifth time after defeating Delhi Capitals in the final and Rohit Sharma retained the title of being the most successful skipper of the tournament. However, the Indian opener has not recovered completely from the injury and most probably, he won’t be able to play for the country in shorter formats on the Australian tour.
Presently, Hitman is in National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bengaluru, and there are good chances that he may join the team for the 4 test match series in Australia. This is certainly going to be a big loss for team India, especially when they have to play against a strong team such as Australia.
When the Australian cricketer David Warner was asked to comment on Rohit’s absence from the ODIs and T20Is on the Australian tour, he said that the Indian squad would miss Rohit Sharma big time but he also named two Indian players who can replace Rohit for the time being. As per Warner, Rohit’s absence will create a big hole in the Indian top order but there are in-form players who can do a good job in his absence, if not better than Rohit Sharma.
David Warner names KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal as suitable replacements for Hitman as they both are in good touch after playing in the IPL.
Shikhar Dhawan, the second Indian opener who is certain to open for the team is also in good form and along with KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal, Shubman Gill can also open for the team as all the three batsmen played some really brilliant knocks in the IPL 2020.
Who should open the Indian innings in the shorter formats in Australia along with Shikhar Dhawan in your opinion?
