Rohit Sharma added another memorable chapter to his legendary career with a record-breaking century during India’s third ODI against England at Lord’s on Sunday (July 19).

The innings also helped Rohit Sharma create history by becoming the oldest Indian batter to score an ODI century. On July 19, 2026, Rohit was 39 years and 80 days old, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s previous record. Tendulkar was 38 years and 327 days old when he scored an ODI century against Bangladesh in Mirpur on March 16, 2012.

Although Rohit Sharma now holds the Indian ODI record, the overall record for the oldest Indian to score an international century still belongs to Vijay Merchant. Vijay Merchant was 40 years and 21 days old when he scored a Test century against England at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi during the match played from November 2 to 7, 1951.

The world record for the oldest player to score an ODI century remains with former UAE batter Khurram Khan. He was 43 years and 162 days old when he scored 132 runs from 138 balls against Afghanistan at the ICC Academy in Dubai on November 30, 2014. Khurram Khan is still the only cricketer to score an ODI century after turning 40.

With his hundred at Lord’s, Rohit Sharma also became the fifth-oldest player in the world to score an ODI century, adding another major achievement to his illustrious career.
