BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha Mocks His Own Party, Calls PM Modi A Chaiwala

Shatrughan Sinha, the BJP MP, has a reputation of speaking against his own party’s government and he has once again criticised the Modi government on the issues of rising intolerance, demonetisation, GST, etc.

The actor turned politician used the word “chaiwala” to question the capability and competence of PM Modi. Additionally, he asked that if a lawyer can handle finance ministry and a TV actress can become HRD & IB minister, why he can’t talk about Economics.

In his words,

“If ‘vakeel babu’ (Mr. Lawyer) can speak on finance, if a TV actress can become the country’s HRD minister and if a chaiwala can become… I won’t even complete that sentence… why can’t I speak about the economy.”

Shatrughan Sinha was speaking at a book launch event in Delhi yesterday which was also attended by the opposition party leaders, such as Sharad Yadav, Sitaram Yechury and Ali Anwar.

A huge uproar was created few days ago when the youth wing of Congress posted a meme to make fun of PM Modi’s start as tea-seller. BJP responded strongly and termed the meme as “blatantly classist and anti-poor”. The Congress party later said that it has nothing to do with the meme and only the volunteer is responsible for it.

Shatrughan slammed demonetisation by saying,

“Demonetisation has rendered millions jobless, factories have been shut, small traders, hawkers are out of work and GST is like ‘neem chadha karela’ (bitter gourd is doubly bitter now). If I do not speak for the youth, for the poor and downtrodden, for the oppressed, then what am I doing in politics?”

The Shotgun Sinha also talked about increasing cases of violence related to cow vigilantes,

“What is happening in this country? Cow vigilantes are killing people, intellectuals, writers, journalists… and now even judges are being killed. ‘Aaj dhan shakti jan shakti par bhari hai’ (Today, money power is stronger than people’s power). And then if people like me come forward, we have attributed motives, we are questioned.”

Shatrughan Sinha dismissed allegations that he speaks against his own party because he was not given a ministerial berth. He said,

“Some people say I speak against my own government’s policies because I was not made a minister. To be honest, I neither have any desire nor any expectations to become a minister. Even those who are ministers today have no standing of their own. They are busy flattering the master to save their skins and seats.”

Few days ago, Sinha called his party, “a one-man show and a two-man army”. He said,

“I had not joined the BJP to leave it. But I would not mince words when I say that we cannot meet our challenges if we continue to be a one-man show and a two-man army.”

He referred to PM Modi’s one-man show and Modi-Shah pair for two-man army.
