You Cannot Imagine What Would Happen If Planes Didn’t Have Round Windows

You must have travelled in flights many a times and must have noticed their oval or circular windows. However, these windows are not just for looks, but their shape is extremely essential to ensure that the journey is a safe one. Want to read the history behind it? Here it is!

In 1950s, when jetliners started being mainstream, there was this fashion of the de Havilland Comet. It had a pressurized cabin and it was able to go faster and higher as compared to other aircrafts.

However, it had square windows and in the year 1953, 2 plans fell apart in air, thus killing 56 people. Windows were the reason behind this crash!

If there is a corner, there is a weak spot. Windows with 4 corners have 4 weak spots and they can crash easily under air pressure. When the window is curved, the stress that cracks the window corner is distributed and there is reduction in the likelihood of windows breaking. Watch the video below to understand better.
