The augmented reality game ‘Pokemon Go’ has already taken over the internet. It has made history in terms of the number of downloads and the users playing it across the world. Everyone is busy catching the Pokemon, this game is making you go outside your house, visit places to catch the virtual Pokemon. This smartphone app is ruling the world with its innovation, it’s blurring the lines between the virtual Pokemon world and ours.
But not everyone thinks the same way, some people think this game is wrong and should be banned. Recently a PIL has been filed in the Gujarat High Court against developers of the game Pokemon Go, accusing the game of hurting the religious sentiments of certain communities by showing eggs in places of worship.
The PIL is Filed by Alay Anil Dave, it is likely to be heard tomorrow by a division bench of Chief Justice R Subhash Reddy and Justice Vipul Pancholi. The main accusation is that the game displays the images of eggs at holy places. In the game, you can see Pokemon appearing in the real world through your mobile phone’s camera. As per the plea, the game shows eggs in the holy places of worship.
Eggs are non- vegetarian food, and it is against many religions, so it is blasphemy and is a violation to have non-vegetarian food such as eggs inside a holy place of worship in the religion of Hindus and Jains.
Nachiket Dave, the lawyer of the petitioner said to the press:
“People playing the game get their points in the form of eggs which generally appear in the places of worship of different religious groups. To find eggs in temples of Hindus and Jains is blasphemous, and therefore my client has sought ban on the game from the country.”
Not only this, the game violates the privacy of a person, it poses a threat to the players’ life who walk around in the search of a Pokemon.
