Champions Trophy 2025- Report Says PCB Will Fail In Renovating The Venues Till Deadline

The prestigious Champions Trophy 2025 is just around the corner and the concerns are mounting over whether the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will be able to complete the necessary renovations at the designated stadiums in time. With just weeks left before the tournament’s scheduled start, reports indicate that meeting the deadline appears to be an insurmountable challenge, despite assurances from those overseeing the work.

The PCB has undertaken extensive refurbishment efforts at key venues in Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi, all of which are set to host the Champions Trophy matches. However, as the January 31 deadline approaches, the pressure is intensifying on the board to fulfill its promise of delivering state-of-the-art facilities.

These venues are also set to host a four-match tri-series featuring New Zealand and South Africa from February 8 to 14, with the first two games scheduled in Lahore and the remaining matches, including the final, in Karachi. While officials insist that the stadiums will be match-ready, questions remain about whether the promised world-class experience can truly be achieved.

A significant obstacle in the renovation process has been the delay in acquiring essential materials and approvals. One of the leading figures in the project, Bilal Chohan, voiced his frustration over the setbacks, particularly regarding the delayed release of construction panels for the Karachi venue, which were only recently cleared for installation.

Despite the challenges, the PCB has already allocated approximately PKR 12 billion towards upgrading these stadiums, underscoring its commitment to meeting international standards. Yet, with tickets for the tournament already on sale, skepticism lingers until an official confirmation on the readiness of the venues is provided.

Adding another layer of uncertainty, ICC CEO Geoff Allardice unexpectedly stepped down from his position, with sources suggesting that the lack of clarity surrounding Pakistan’s preparation for the Champions Trophy may have influenced his departure. As the clock ticks down, the PCB faces an uphill battle to silence doubts and ensure the successful hosting of one of the most prestigious cricket tournaments.
