The Kolkata team was in big trouble as the stand-in skipper of Gujarat Titans – Rashid Khan struck a hat-trick in the 17th over and sent Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and Shardul Thakur back to the dug-out. KKR needed 29 runs in the last over and a win for KKR seemed distant possibility but Rinku Singh was in no mood to give up and he smashed five back-to-back sixes in the last over of the innings which was bowled by Yash Dayal.

Yash Dayal bowled consecutive three full tosses but after that, he improved his length and also changed his pace but nothing was able to stop Rinku Singh. Though all the five balls bowled by Yash Dayal were not bad deliveries, Rinku Singh was batting at the top level and he was hitting the ball as per his will.

Yash Dayal who is Rinku Singh’s teammate from the UP domestic team was left in a state of shock and despair after being on the receiving end but the official Twitter handle of KKR made a motivating tweet for the GT cricketer and tried to lift his spirits.

KKR posted a photo of the GT cricketer and wrote, “Chin up, lad. Just a hard day at the office, happens to the best of players in cricket. You’re a champion, Yash, and you’re gonna come back strong”

As far as the match is concerned, GT won the toss and decided to bat first. The decision was proven correct by the GT batters as they posted a huge total of 204/4 on the score board in their stipulated 20 overs. GT had a steady start as their openers – Wriddhiman Saha (17 runs, 17 balls, 3 fours) and Shubman Gill (39 runs, 31 balls, 5 fours) produced a partnership of 33 runs for the first wicket. Sai Sudarshan once again batted brilliantly as he scored 53 runs (38 balls, 3 fours & 2 sixes) and the highest scorer for GT was Vijay Shankar who remained unbeaten at the score of 63 runs for which he played 24 balls and his innings included 4 fours & 5 sixes.

KKR had a bad start as its openers got out cheaply but Venkatesh Iyer (80 runs, 40 balls, 8 fours & 5 sixes) and skipper Nitish Rana (45 runs, 29 balls, 4 fours & 3 sixes) stabilized the innings but things turned ugly after Rashid Khan took hat-trick and dismissed Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and Shardul Thakur in the 17th over.

KKR needed 43 runs in the last 2 overs and it was Rinku Singh’s heroics which helped KKR in pulling off an almost impossible victory. Rinku Singh was adjudged as the Player of the Match for his superb knock of 48 runs not out for which he played only 21 balls and his innings included 1 four and 6 sixes.

Great performance by Rinku Singh but hopefully Yash Dayal won’t lose heart and KKR’s tweet may help in healing his wounds of the yesterday’s match.
