Well, such an incident took place with a Chilean employee who was paid 286 times of his salary by mistake after which the employee resigned from the company and vanished.

The incident took place in the month of May in human resources area of the Food Industrial Consortium (Cial) which controls few important brands of Chile including La Preferida , San Jorge and Winter. On May 30, an employee reported the deputy manager that there was some issue in regard to the payment of his salary as he was supposed to be paid 500,000 Chilean pesos (Rs 43,000) but he was paid 165,398,851 Chilean pesos (Rs 1.42 crore). The employee was asked to visit the bank and prepare a voucher in Cial’s name for the purpose of refunding the excess money.

This error occurred because of the technical glitch but the officials were not worried as the employee agreed to return the money.

The employee said that he would visit the bank and do the needful for refunding the money but that didn’t happen, though the organization tried to contact him but they were not able to communicate. Later on, the employee contacted the company and stated that he would soon visit the bank but on June 2, he came to office with his lawyer and submitted his resignation. There had been no news of the employee after that day and the company had taken the legal route for getting their money back.

What would have you done if you had been in place of that employee?
