Undoubtedly, Akshay Khiladi Kumar is one of the most successful Bollywood actors at the present time and all his movies are doing great on the box office. After the tremendous performance of “Rustom” and “Airlift”, the actor made an announcement of his new flick entitled “Gold” which depicts the historical tale of India’s first ever Olympic medal that it won as an independent country.
As per reports, the “Baby” star will portray the character of Balbir Singh, a hockey player of Indian team which won the gold medal in the year 1948. The shooting of the movie has not begun yet; however, it appears that it has already been entangled in controversy. It’s claimed by Sushbir Kaur, Balbir Singh’s daughter, that Gold’s makers didn’t approach her yet.
Here’s what she told Mid-Day,
“The media has reported that Gold (directed by Reema Kagti) is based on my father’s life since he was the star of the Olympics show. But, we aren’t sure about the subject and how much of it will delve into my father’s struggle. The 1948 Olympics revolves around many key players.”
The Olympic triumph in London holds great significance in view of the fact that for the first time as an independent nation, India’s National Anthem had been played. As per Sushbir Kaur, “The tiranga was hoisted on foreign shores and my father was an important part of it.” She added that the opening goal was scored by her father. In her words,
“He was instrumental in getting the gold and we are his immediate family. Ideally, we should be consulted on this [film]. As of now, there is no clarity on the film.”
She further stated said it would be a pleasure for her and her family to assist the makers. She said,
“In 2012, my father was chosen as one of the 16 iconic Olympians of all times. His life’s story makes for a solid biopic and his trajectory of scaling such great heights despite humble beginnings will inspire the youth. Akshay is fantastic and as fit as my father was when we were growing up.”
We hope that the issue gets sorted out soon!
