2001 released movie “Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein” (RHTDM) which starred R Madhavan, Saif Ali Khan and Dia Mirza in important roles was one of the biggest hits of its times and even today the film connects easily with the youngsters but there have been instances when the young generation has slammed the flick due to couple of reasons.
The actress Dia Mirza who became the heartbeat of many youngsters after the movie hit the theatres has also stated that if she is offered “RHTDM” in the present time, she will also have some issues with the flick and she would have asked the writers to change it.
In “RHTDM”, Madhavan plays the character of a person named Maddy who falls in love with Reena (Dia Mirza) and he stalks her and lies to her by pretending to be Sam (the character portrayed by Saif Ali Khan) with whom Reena’s marriage talks were going on. Reena breaks off with Maddy after she knows the truth but in the end, she marries him as they both fall in love genuinely.
In an interview with a magazine, Dia Mirza stated that if the movie was offered to her today, she would question some aspects of the film as she is completely against stalking. She further adds that stalking is an awful thing to do and Maddy not only stalks the girl in the movie but also lies to her. The actress further states that there is no justification for stalking and lying despite the fact that some movies with similar scenes have performed pretty well on the box-office in the recent past and it indicates that as a society, we don’t consider stalking as bad. She adds that she feels the movies are responsible for spreading the sense of falsehood as the correct thing.
