Jofra Archer believes bowling in England offers a much bigger margin for error than the Indian Premier League (IPL), where flat pitches and shorter boundaries make life extremely difficult for bowlers. The England fast bowler shared his views after delivering a match-winning performance in England’s record victory over India in the third T20I at Trent Bridge earlier this week.

Jofra Archer enjoyed an excellent IPL 2026 season with Rajasthan Royals, finishing as the tournament’s third highest wicket-taker. He picked up 25 wickets in 16 matches but admitted that success in the IPL requires bowlers to be almost perfect because even small mistakes can be heavily punished.
Speaking after England’s dominant win over India, Jofra Archer said that bowling in the English conditions feels more natural. He explained that in England, bowlers can stick to a good length and straightforward plans, while in the IPL they have to be far more precise because batting-friendly pitches and small boundaries leave very little room for error.

England posted a competitive total of 201/7, with opener Phil Salt leading the charge with a well-made half-century. India failed to respond and were bowled out for just 76, handing England a crushing 125-run victory. It was India’s heaviest defeat by runs in T20 International cricket.
Reflecting on the match, Jofra Archer said that although scores of 200 are often not enough in the IPL, he felt England had a strong total on the Trent Bridge surface. He added that chasing such a score would have required a special innings and praised the entire bowling attack for contributing to the victory, with every bowler taking wickets in a complete team performance.

Jofra Archer also formed an effective pace partnership with debutant Josh Tongue, as the duo troubled the Indian batters with bounce and disciplined bowling. However, Jofra Archer downplayed suggestions that raw pace alone unsettled India. He said that both he and Josh Tongue had bowled well in Manchester too, despite not getting the rewards there. According to Jofra Archer, disciplined execution mattered more than speed and the windy conditions also affected how quick the ball felt.
England will now look to continue their dominance in the five-match series when the fourth T20I is played in Bristol on Thursday, with Jofra Archer hoping to build on another impressive performance.
