DK & Matthew Hayden Pull Ravi Shastri’s Leg On Sensitive Topic Of 3D Player, Shastri Reacts
The Indian cricket team is in a pretty strong position in the first test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 which is being played at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium as it took a lead of 223 runs over Australia after its first innings. The Indian squad posted a total of 400 runs on the score board in its first innings in response to Australia’s score of 177 of the first innings. The Indian skipper Rohit Sharma (120 runs), Ravindra Jadeja (70 runs) and Axar Patel (84 runs) played brilliant knocks and in the end, Mohammed Shami played quick knock of 37 runs for which he played 47 balls and smashed 2 fours and 3 sixes.
Ravindra Jadeja is certainly one of the finest all-rounders of the present time and with this test match, he has made a comeback in the cricket field after almost six months as he was suffering from knee injury. Ravindra Jadeja contributed with not just bat but earlier in Australia’s first innings, he dismissed 5 batters as well.
The former Aussie cricketer Matthew Hayden who was doing commentary with Ravi Shastri and Dinesh Karthik during the ongoing test match praised Ravindra Jadeja and called him a three-dimensional (3D) player. This gave a chance to Dinesh Karthik as he poked fun at Ravi Shastri by calling it a sensitive topic in this part of the world.
If you remember, the former chief selector MSK Prasad tried to justify the selection of Vijay Shankar over Ambati Rayudu in the Indian squad for the 2019 World Cup by calling Vijay Shankar a 3D player. After this statement of MSK Prasad, not just many cricket lovers but Ambati Rayudu also made fun of him.
Ravi Shastri was the head coach of team India during the 2019 World Cup and the team management was slammed a lot for its decisions related to selection.
While DK and Matthew Hayden tried their best to make Ravi Shastri speak on this topic, he avoided speaking on it by talking about Rohit Sharma’s century. DK tells Mathew Hayden that 3D cricketer is a sensitive topic in this part of the world but Ravi Shastri can enlighten him in his regard. Matthew Hayden further tries a lot to make Ravi Shastri speak by saying that he hasn’t seen Ravi backing down from any challenge.
Finally, the former head coach chose to speak on it and he took a jibe at MSK Prasad by saying that some time ago, a player was selected and was called a 3-dimensional cricketer but he is still trying to understand what that means.
After Matthew Hayden clarified why he called Ravindra Jadeja a 3D cricketer, he said that by 3D, he meant a great fielder who is good with bat and bowl.
As far as the first test match is concerned, by the time this article was written, Australia had made a score of 91/9 in its second innings and it is trailing by 132 runs.
The Indian team is pretty close to its first victory in the series. Who will be the Player of the Match? Any guesses?
