“Eng Would’ve Won The WC If They Had….,” Michael Vaughan Makes Bold Claim About Indian Pacer

Few bowlers in world cricket command as much respect today as Jasprit Bumrah. Whether it’s his deadly Yorkers, calm presence under pressure or ability to change games in a matter of overs, the Indian fast bowler continues to earn praise from legends across the cricket world.

The latest admiration came from former England captain Michael Vaughan, who made a bold statement about Jasprit Bumrah while discussing the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 on the ‘Stick To Cricket’ podcast. Michael Vaughan even shared the clip on X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “England would have won the WC if they had Bumrah..”

During the discussion, Michael Vaughan explained just how highly he rates the Indian pacer. “I reckon, if you put Jasprit Bumrah in English cricket, they win it (T20 World Cup). Probably like Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, these kind of….”

Former England cricketer David Lloyd then reminded Vaughan of an earlier comment he had made about Bumrah’s quality.

“Didn’t you say he’s the best bowler you’ve ever seen?” Lloyd asked.

“Yeah, that I’ve seen,” Vaughan said.

“And you gotta remember, I started watching cricket, probably from the 85-86, when I really started to study cricket. He’s the best I’ve seen,” Vaughan added.

Another former England captain, Alastair Cook, also joined the conversation and praised Jasprit Bumrah’s impact across formats.

“Is he the best in a match-winning spell in Test match cricket? He’s definitely, without a shadow of doubt, the best all-format bowler. You can safely say that, can’t you? In any form, he like the best all-round bowler,” Alastair Cook said.

“Has he, like a Test match, he’s bowled some spells, and I’m not quite.. 8/15 or is he not that kind of bowler?” Alastair Cook added.

Vaughan responded by recalling Jasprit Bumrah’s performances in Australia.

“I’ve seen him a bit in Australia produce some spells, and he has been just different,” Michael Vaughan said.

Jasprit Bumrah played a huge role in India’s title-winning campaign. He finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker of the tournament alongside Varun Chakravarthy, with both the bowlers picking up 14 wickets at an average of 12.42 and an economy rate of 6.21. Bumrah also recorded a four-wicket haul, becoming the first pacer to take four wickets in a T20 World Cup knockout match. Previously, only spinners Ajantha Mendis (4/12 vs West Indies in the 2012 final) and Shadab Khan (4/26 in the 2021 semifinal against Australia) had achieved the feat.

With 40 wickets in 26 matches, Jasprit Bumrah is now the fifth highest wicket-taker in the T20 World Cup history. He is also the most successful fast bowler in the tournament, surpassing Lasith Malinga, who took 38 wickets in 31 matches.

Jasprit Bumrah’s record in the tournament is remarkable. He has now won the T20 World Cup twice. In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, he was named the Player of the Tournament after taking 15 wickets in eight matches at an average of 8.26. In 2026, he once again topped the wicket charts and was awarded the Player of the Match in the final, further strengthening his reputation as one of the greatest bowlers in the format.
