Flipkart Sent A Sexist Email To Masses & Faced Rage Of Users On Twitter

Flipkart has sent an email to a number of people for promoting women’s products with a note, “Beauty breeds success”. Such an email is natural to create a storm as it gives an example of sexism and poor advertising. As a matter of fact, it’s clearly implying the idea that “beautiful” woman are likely to be more successful than not-so-beautiful ones and attain their goals more easily on account of their gorgeousness and good looks.

To quote the words written on the email sent by Flipkart,

“Research show that beautiful women are more successful in their lives.”

Quite obviously, the email appears to offensively sexist in nature and sparks off a flood of reaction on Twitter.

After this, there is no wonder for Flipkart to ask for apology and make sure to investigate the issue.

@hirishitalkies, thanks for bringing this to our notice. We do not endorse the content of this email. We will investigate this & take action

— Flipkart (@Flipkart) August 30, 2015

From this perspective, tweet of chief product officer of Flipkart, Punit Soni, is worth mentioning:

@hirishitalkies Unconditional apologies. We do not endorse the insensitive remarks in the email. This is a big fail, will not happen again.

Twitter users revealed that this kind of sexism is not for the first time on the part of Flipkart:

There is no denying the fact that these examples of insensible promotions are wrong and unacceptable and promoting sexism like this cannot be forgiven.
