The Indian cricket fans were left pretty disappointed after India lost its first ICC T20 World Cup 2021 match to Pakistan by 10 wickets. The match was played on 24th October at Dubai International Stadium and this was a very big win for the Pakistani team as it was its first victory in the World Cup against India. Before this match, India and Pakistan faced each other 12 times (7 ODIs & 5 T20Is) in the World Cup tournaments and all the 12 times, India defeated Pakistan. However in this 13th encounter, Pakistan outplayed India in all the segments whether it was batting, bowling or fielding and registered a huge victory.
While Pakistanis celebrated the triumph in a grand manner which is quite obvious, Indians were quite sad and annoyed. There were still many Indian fans who supported the Indian squad and stood by it; however on the other hand, some netizens slammed the Indian cricketers and few even went on to abuse them but all the limits were crossed by one section of fans who targeted Indian pacer Mohammad Shami who had a very bad day on the field as he gave 43 runs in his 3.5 overs and wasn’t able to take any wicket. What was more disgusting was the fact that Mohammad Shami was not only slammed for his game but also for his religion and few haters even asked him to go to Pakistan.
The good thing was that Mohammad Shami was supported strongly by many people from the Indian cricket fraternity as well as cricket fans. The former Indian cricketers such as VVS Laxman, Virender Sehwag, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, RP Singh, Aakash Chopra and others slammed the online users who were targeting Mohammad Shami.
The legendary former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar also showed support to Mohammad Shami as he tweeted, “When we support #TeamIndia, we support every person who represents Team India. @MdShami11 is a committed, world-class bowler. He had an off day like any other sportsperson can have. I stand behind Shami & Team India.”
I stand behind Shami & Team India.

The Indian political leaders have also come out in support of Mohammad Shami as Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter and wrote, “Mohammad #Shami we are all with you. These people are filled with hate because nobody gives them any love. Forgive them.”
Mohammad #Shami we are all with you.
These people are filled with hate because nobody gives them any love. Forgive them.

Here are some tweets by other renowned celebrities from the sports world:
The online attack on Mohammad Shami is shocking and we stand by him. He is a champion and Anyone who wears the India cap has India in their hearts far more than any online mob. With you Shami. Agle match mein dikado jalwa.

Mohammed Shami has been a stellar performer for India for eight years, playing a significant role in many a victory. He can't be defined by one performance. My best wishes are always with him. I urge fans & followers of the game to support @MdShami11 and the Indian team.

Online trolls are the ones who earlier used to burn effigies and throw paint-stones at player’s houses…with an online profile without a face worthy of a profile pic. 🤨

Criticising is fine but khiladiyon ko abuse nahi karna chahiye. Ye game hai, better team on that day won.

R P Singh
@MdShami11 is an Indian cricketer and we are proud of him. To target him after the loss against Pak is pathetic.

355 International wickets. It is India that beats in the heart of anyone representing India. And Mohammad Shami has been an outstanding and yet unsung servant of Indian cricket. More power to him.

8 years, 355 international wickets and so many match-winning performances 🙌
We are immensely proud of what @MdShami11 has done for 🇮🇳 every time we needed it! 🙌

Well, trolling a cricketer for just one loss is certainly not justified but targeting him for his religion is disgusting and shameful.
