Though the match was rain affected, still it was a nail-biting encounter with balance tilting at regular intervals and finally it was CSK which lifted the trophy and broke the dream of Gujarat Titans to win its second consecutive title.

The toss was won by MS Dhoni and he chose to bowl first after winning the toss. GT had a good start as both the openers Wriddhiman Saha (54 runs, 39 balls, 5 fours & 1 sixes) and Shubman Gill (39 runs, 20 balls, 7 fours) produced a partnership of 67 runs in 7 overs but the young Indian cricketer Gill became the target of MS Dhoni’s stumping which was done at a lightning speed.

However, Sai Sudarshan who came to bat after Shubman Gill’s dismissal ripped apart the CSK bowling as he played a blistering knock of 96 runs at the strike rate of 204.26. The 21 years old Sai Sudarshan who plays for Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket faced 47 deliveries and his innings included 8 fours and 6 sixes.

GT put up a big total of 214/4 on the scoreboard in its stipulated 20 overs but rain stopped the match just after the CSK batters played the first 3 balls of their innings. The match was started after some hours and the target was revised to 171 for CSK as per the Duckworth-Lewis method.

CSK openers also started well as their openers Ruturaj Gaikwad (26 runs, 16 balls, 3 fours & 1 six) and Devon Conway (47 runs, 25 balls, 4 fours & 2 sixes) stitched a partnership of 74 runs in almost 6 overs before Noor Ahmad got rid of both of them in the same over which was the seventh over of the innings. Shivam Dube (32 runs not out, 21 balls, 2 sixes) and Ajinkya Rahane (27 runs, 13 balls, 2 fours & 2 sixes) kept the momentum going on, Ambati Rayudu also played a quick innings of 19 runs (8 balls, 1 four & 2 sixes) but MS Dhoni got departed on the golden duck. However, it was Ravindra Jadeja (15 runs, 6 balls, 1 four & 1 six) who played a couple of big shots in highly pressurized situation as he sent Mohit Sharma for a six and a four on the last two balls of the innings when CSK needed 10 runs to win in the last 2 balls.

As soon as Jadeja smashed the winning shot, there were celebrations in the CSK camp and among the fans as their favourite team won the title for the fifth time and now there is a tie for the most successful captain and the team because MI has also won the IPL title five times under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.

Soon people started expressing themselves on the social media platforms and here is how the cricket fraternity reacted:

Congratulations Chennai Super Kings and MS Dhoni!!!!
